Given that we got quite a lot of path length variation just by steering to the inside/outside of the bends in the splitter lines, I wonder if you'd get enough variation by doing the same in the extracted line, which has a lot of bends in it too
03:58
Also how do you plan to get the 42, 78, 114MeV energies into the 150MeV line? The splitter dipole can be reduced, but that might mean odd angle ratios for the other beams in some cases (particularly 114)
J. Scott Berg 09:14 AM
Do you have a feel for why your beta functions get so high? In the CBETA splitters, it happened basically because we were trying to do too many things, some of which were opposed to what the geometry naturally wanted to do, in too small of a space. But it looks like you should have much more space available.
Kirsten Deitrick 21:04 PM
@Stephen Brooks, in theory, we would need to alter the beginning / end of the bypass line to connect to the appropriate splitter lines if we don't use the 150 MeV electrons - but generally, there are better sources for those x-ray energies.
Kirsten Deitrick 21:16 PM
@J. Scott Berg The bypass line has more space, but one of the large bends are extremely geometrically constrained - and that's where the large betas occur. Basically, the bend to get around the pump skids without impeding the floor-level access path between the FB girder tables and the shielding wall, while matching back into the CBETA optics, was not the easiest problem to solve
Francois Meot 22:01 PM
What is the status of CBETA ERL operation?
Stephen Brooks 22:20 PM
As far as I know, there's been no operation and more importantly, no funding since Feb 2020
