In this research division, the research on proton circular accelerators and electron linear accelerators is under conduction. The proton or heavy ion storage ring (ERIT) with an internal target is used to study applications in various fields. Example 1: Since ERIT can produce secondary particles with high efficiency, research on muon production for radioactivity removal by muon transmutation, muon-catalyzed fusion, etc. Example 2: The aim is to produce the unprecedented 119th and 120th elements. In the conventional method, the beam hits the target only once to produce superheavy elements. Still, when using the ERIT ring, the production number is expected to be about 100 times higher because an internal target is used.
Regarding a linear accelerator, an accelerator-based intense light source in the terahertz region has been developed, and its application to spectroscopic research has progressed with the electron linear accelerator in KURNS.
